New CLIA product | Immunoglobulin E shines on the market

Introduction to Immunoglobulin E

Immunoglobulin (Ig) is a globulin with antibody activity or a chemical structure similar to that of an antibody. It can be divided into 5 types according to its heavy chain structure and antigenicity. IgE antibody is one of them, with the lowest content in normal human serum. IgE is mainly produced by B cells in the submucosal lamina propria lymphoid tissue of the nasopharynx, tonsils, trachea, and gastrointestinal tract. It can bind to surface receptors on mast cells and basophils, putting the body in a sensitized state.

Clinical significance of immunoglobulin E

Elevated IgE

Ø Type I allergic diseases, such as idiopathic asthma, idiopathic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, etc., IgE is often elevated.

Ø Non-allergic diseases, such as IgE myeloma, parasitic infection,         etc. IgE is elevated.

Ø IgE can be elevated in diseases such as acute or chronic hepatitis, SLE, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Decreased IgE

ØSee in primary agammaglobulinemia, tumors and chemotherapy           drugs, ataxia-telangiectasia, etc.

Guideline recomm endations
Expert consensus on anti -IgE monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of allergic rhinitis (2022)

For patients with allergic rhinitis (AR), it is recommended to detect total IgE and sIgE simultaneously, regardless of the patient's skin and medication conditions.

Expert consensus on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of allergic diseases (2022)

In vitro allergen detection, including sIgE detection, total IgE detection, basophil activation test (BAT), etc.

Expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of bronchiectasis in adults in China (2012)

Serum total immunoglobulin E (lgE), Aspergillus-specific lgE, and Aspergillus skin prick test: used to identify allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). If ABPA is diagnosed, one should be alert to the possibility of mixed pulmonary aspergillosis.
